About ADHCrafts 

ADHCrafts guides, kits and workshops are designed with different learning styles in mind, using clear steps, practical explanations and supportive information rather than assuming previous knowledge.

As a neurodivergent maker myself, I know that traditional instructions do not always explain the part you actually need explained. Sometimes a different explanation, a visual prompt, more time to practise or simply being able to approach something in your own way can make all the difference.

That experience influences how ADHCrafts educational resources are developed. The aim isn't to make craft less skilled or less detailed. It is to make the information easier to access, understand and adapt so that more people can discover what works for them.

This approach also shapes our workshops. Equipment, fibre and demonstrations are introduced at a manageable pace, questions are welcome, and reasonable adjustments are encouraged where they can help someone take part comfortably.

Beginners are very welcome here.

Materials with a story

British natural fibres are an important part of ADHCrafts.

Where practical, I work with British wool, locally sourced fleece and materials whose provenance can be understood and shared. Some fibres come directly from smallholders or individual animals; others are chosen because of their breed characteristics or suitability for a particular project.

Local materials are also used where they genuinely make sense. This can include naturally grown dye plants, locally sourced beeswax and other craft materials that connect the finished product back to the people and places they came from.

I try to be clear about what is known. If a fibre breed, source or preparation method is known, I will include that information. If it is not known, I would rather say so than make assumptions.

Not every material can or should be sourced locally, and ADHCrafts does not rely on vague sustainability claims. The focus is on traceability where possible, careful use of materials, small-batch production and honest product information.

For many customers, that story matters almost as much as the finished yarn, kit or craft material itself.

Hand-processing fibre, preparing materials and hand-spinning yarn all take time. Individual fleeces behave differently, natural fibres vary from batch to batch, and some yarns or products simply cannot be recreated once they are gone.

That individuality is part of their value.

Working in small batches also allows me to pay attention to the material itself — how it has been prepared, what it is best suited to and whether the finished product meets the standard I want before it reaches a customer.

It also means the shop may change regularly. You may find one-off yarns, limited batches, seasonal materials or kits containing different locally sourced fibre breeds depending on what is available at the time.

For ADHCrafts, growing slowly and sustainably matters more than producing large volumes. The aim is to protect quality, maintain a personal approach and make sure the business remains manageable enough to continue doing the work with care.

My background in nursing, teaching, mentoring and community roles has shaped the way I approach craft: as something that can build confidence, create connection, support learning and give people space to explore skills at their own pace.

That experience now also feeds into the development of a separate community interest company focused on reducing isolation through accessible social activities, creative opportunities, skills development and routes into volunteering or other meaningful participation.

ADHCrafts remains an independent sole-trader business, but some workshops and pilot activities may also contribute to that wider community work. Where this happens, it will be made clear which organisation is delivering the activity and who is responsible for it.

For me, the connection between the two is straightforward: practical skills, creativity and supportive environments can help people feel more confident, connected and able to take part.
