Grow your own traditional yellow dye plant with this practical weld sowing mix.

Each packet contains 3g of mixed weld seed and clean, dry plant chaff. The tiny seeds cannot be accurately separated from the chaff, so the weights of the individual components may vary.

The chaff helps the seed flow from the packet, makes it easier to scatter across the prepared ground and helps you see where you have sown. Shake the closed packet gently before opening, then sow the complete mix without trying to separate it.

Growing weld

Weld (Reseda luteola) is a traditional yellow dye plant that usually grows as a biennial. It generally forms a low rosette during its first year before producing tall flowering stems in its second.

Sow onto a fine, firm and well-drained surface where the plants are to grow. Press the seed into contact with the soil but do not bury it, as the tiny seed needs light to germinate.

Growing conditions vary, so keep part of the mix in reserve if you would like the option of a second sowing.
