Introduction to Drop-Spindle Spinning Workshop

Spend an evening learning the foundations of drop-spindle spinning in a relaxed, practical workshop.

This introductory session is designed for beginners and will take you through the basic principles of preparing fibre, starting a yarn and using a drop spindle. You will have time to practise, ask questions and explore how the fibre behaves as you work.

A spindle and fibre will be available for you to use during the workshop, so you do not need to buy any equipment before attending.

The session runs from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with a short 10-minute break during the evening.

What is included

• Use of a drop spindle during the workshop
• Fibre to practise with during the session
• Step-by-step tuition and demonstrations
• Time to practise at your own pace
• Support with troubleshooting and adapting technique

The workshop is intended as an introduction, so no previous spinning experience is needed.

Optional beginner’s kit

ADHCrafts Beginner’s Drop-Spindle Kits are available separately for anyone who would like to continue practising at home.

Kits can be:

• purchased before the workshop and collected at the Orchard Centre on 4 November;
• collected from 5:30 pm before the workshop begins; or
• purchased after the workshop, subject to availability.

Buying a kit is optional and is not required to take part in the workshop.

Accessibility and reasonable adjustments

The workshop will take place in a ground-floor space at the Orchard Centre.

The venue has:

• disabled access;
• an accessible toilet;
• ground-level workshop space;
• kitchen access; and
• onsite parking.
